Vladimir Gilelevich Maz'ya

Vladimir Gilelevich Maz'ya (Владимир Гилелевич Мазья) is a Russian mathematician, born in Leningrad in 1937. He made contributions to a wide array of areas of mathematical analysis. He is most well known for his work on Sobolev spaces, and in particular the relationship of Sobolev inequalities and isoperimetry.

Maz'ya received the Humboldt Prize in 1999.^[1]^[2] In 2000, he was elected a to the Royal Society of Edinburgh,^[3] and the Swedish Academy of Science in 2002.^[1] He has been awarded with a number of other prizes as well.^[1] On the occasion of his 60th birthday, two international conference were held in his honor. One at the University of Rostock was on Sobolev spaces. The other, at the École Polytechnique in Paris, was on the boundary element method. Other conferences were held on the occasion of his 65th and 70th birthdays.^[1]^[4] He shares his time between University of Liverpool and Linköping University.
